Dear Ruth, Howie, Rachel, Boone and Mac,
We are sorry to hear that Ethel has passed away. She was a wonderful and kind woman. I remember her smile and quiet confidence. She was a great leader and cheerleader to others who knew everyone had greatness in them. I will not be able to come tonight as I am not feeling well. Little did I know, when Ethel hired me to manage the Nursing Lab at SUNY Morrisville, that our lives would become so connected and reconnected, with EHS serving as my first and most significant professional nursing mentor! We shared common roots in Western New York (Niagara Falls & Lockport homes.) Then discovered we were fellow BGH Grads - mentored by the same outstanding director. We often reminisced on those BGH experiences over the years... and I eagerly accepted Ethel's challenge to go to graduate school, never expecting I would return to Morrisville to plan, open and direct their first RN-BSN program! Full circle.
Then, we shared our family times and service to our churches and youth. Ever welcome at the Schaffer Seder table at UU, Ethel & Bob then traveled to our St. Joseph's to help introduce Seder to our parish and Youth Ministry kids. God is good. My tears of thanks, laughter, joy and sorrow ... and always Love are with you, Howie & Ruth, Rachel, Boone & Mac! May abundant blessings be yours always for your loving care of your Mom... and Dad. There must be a special room in heaven for you, setting the bar for how we each should honor thy father and thy mother. Many hugs & God Bless you always

I've known Mrs. Schaefer since first grade when I became friends with Howie. She had a great sarcastic sense of humor. I still have the laundry bag that she made as a graduation present with the troop 199 logo and slogan. "Meeting the challenge of the outdoors". My prayers and. Condolences to Ruth, Howie and the boys.
