I had so many wonderful conversations with Bob at Utica Coffee as he sat with The New York Times spread open on the table in front of him. We talked politics and world events and journalism, and he was always gracious and friendly. I offer my condolences to the family.

Mr. Lewis taught New York State History at the old Mount Markham, before the new High School was built. He was a wonderful teacher, and I still remember some of the things he taught about the Iroquois and the other tribes of that nation. When I travel the country, I always look at ridges on land and wonder if they are Native burial grounds. I remember making models of longhouses, and studying the Finger Lakes. He was very articulate. Rest in peace, Sir.

I graduated in 1980. I fondly remember Mr. Lewis as my 7th grade History teacher. Softspoken man. I don't recall him ever raising his voice in the classroom. You could tell he loved teaching. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
