Obituary of Joseph L. Neschleba

Joseph L. Neschleba, 90, a Whitesboro, NY resident since 1992, died peacefully in the comfort of his home on August 3, 2013. Joseph was born March 6, 1923 in Binghamton, NY, the son of the late John and Katherine Neschleba, immigrants from Slovakia. During World War II, Joseph served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as First Lieutenant Meteorologist for bomber pilots. He was a chemist and materials manager at Ansco and GAF in Binghamton for 26 years. He moved to Huntington, Long Island to join Powers Chemco in 1974. Later he taught computer skills to special needs students, retiring in 1992 and moving to the Mohawk Valley to be closer to family. Joseph remained committed to education, serving on various committees in the Whitesboro School District. Joseph had a great love for the game of golf, winning several tournaments over the years. He enjoyed reading books and newspapers and listening to music. His travels across the United States and Europe combined with his love for photography has resulted in a large collection of color slides. Joseph is survived by Eleanor, his wife of 68 years; his sister Irene Myers of Vestal, NY; his son, Michael and his wife Patricia Fitzgerald of Acton and Orleans, MA; his daughter, Nancy Smith of Pinehurst, NC; his daughter Carol Goodman and his son-in law Dr. Daniel Goodman of New Hartford, NY; and eight grandchildren Patrick Neschleba (Kerri) of Mountainview, CA; Kathy Harwood (Jon) of Andover, MA; Alan Goodman of Miami, FL; Joanna Goodman of Fraser, CO; Martha Kraus (Tom) of Brooklyn, NY; Emily Goodman of Atlanta, GA; Matthew Goodman of New Hartford; Nathaniel Smith of Jersey City, NJ; He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Eric and Brooke Neschleba, and Sidney and Riley Olsen, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Mary Champ of Albany, NY and Betty Uhouse of Binghamton, and by his brother Albert Neschleba of Binghamton. Joseph was a member of St. Anne's Church in Whitesboro and more recently of Church of the Annunciation in Clarks Mills. A special thanks to Slocum Dickson Medical Group, Dr. Jerry Sloan and to the Visiting Nurse Association for their care. A funeral service will be held for family on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Home, 35 College St., Clinton, NY. A graveside memorial service will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please consider donations in Joseph's memory to a charity of your choice.
